Forget the snowman! Do you want to build a…sandcastle?

On Alabama’s white-sand beaches, we’d rather spend our winter playing in the sand than the snow. And, that’s just what we’ll be doing for the 2nd Annual Sandcastle Showdown on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

The Sandcastle Showdown calls on local businesses to compete in a fun and friendly competition to vie for a year’s worth of bragging rights, trophy and custom sand sculpture created by Sandcastle University. Held at the legendary Flora-Bama Lounge and Package, this event is sponsored by The Beach Moms Concierge Service, Beachball Properties, Sandcastle University, and Front Porch Network.

Proceeds from this family-friendly event benefit Clothe the Children, an organization providing clothing to children in need in Foley, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach.

Who:

10 local businesses can enter with no more than five people per team

Cost:

$100 tax-deductible donation per team

Judges:

Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon and two surprise judges

Winner:

One team will be awarded overall winner and will receive a trophy and custom logo sand sculpture by Sandcastle University valued at $800.

Best Spirit Award:

Have fun! Show your team spirit! Dress up and go crazy representing your business. (Just not too crazy…this is a family-friendly event, remember!)

10 a.m. – 12 p.m.	Sandcastle Training with Janel Hawkins
12 p.m. – 1 p.m.	Lunch
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.	Sandcastle Creation Time
3:30 p.m.	Judging
4 p.m.	Announcement of Winner
5 p.m.	After Party

Sandcastle Showdown Rules and Information

Sandcastle University will provide tools to all teams.
Each team will have a designated area.
Only natural materials can be used for decorations.
Structure must be a sandcastle.
There is no limit in the size of the sandcastle.
Designs should incorporate the team’s day-to-day business.
Teams will be judged based on originality, teamwork, and use of tools.

Maybe this castle isn’t for beginners, but teams will learn from the best as Janel from Sandcastle University shares the tricks of the trade with participants before they build their own creations for the competition!
